Derby Originals Superior Slow Feed Soft Mesh Hanging Hay Nets for Horses offer a superior slow feeding option to traditional hay nets. Unlike standard hay nets, which are made of brittle and easily fraying and breaking poly rope, our hay nets are made from soft mesh rope that has an incredibly high breaking strength, is long-lasting, and is UV, mold, and mildew resistant. Our slow feed hay nets have been carefully designed to be comfortable for your horse to use and eat from and are more gentle on their teeth and gums than traditional hay nets or other feeders. Our hay nets are available in a wide array of sizes and colors so that you can find the perfect net for you and your horse!
Please be aware that all Derby Originals soft mesh hay nets are made by hand, and may have slight variation in overall size and the size of the openings. All measurements and capacities listed are approximate. The amount of hay that our hay nets can hold varies greatly due to the type of hay being fed, the dimensions of the hay bale, and the size of the hay flake.
- PREVENTS EXCESS HAY WASTAGE - our slow feed hay nets are designed to help you save money and reduce waste by over 50%. These hay nets prevent hay from being scattered or soiled which is beneficial to your horse's health as well as your wallet.
- IMPROVES YOUR HORSE'S DIGESTION - hay nets allow you to slow feed your horse, which mimics natural grazing patterns and is proven to aid the digestive process. Slow feeding is recommended by veterinarians to prevent gastric ulcers and colic.
- REDUCES BOREDOM - horses are designed to spend up to 16 hours a day grazing. Slow feeding replicates this natural behavior and keeps your horse occupied longer, which helps to prevent boredom-based bad behaviors such as chewing, cribbing, and pacing.
- EXCLUSIVE SOFT MESH DESIGN - our slow feed hay nets are made from a soft but durable poly rope that is better for your horse's teeth and gum health and more comfortable to eat from than hard metal feeders and traditional hay nets.
- HOLDS APPROX. 4-6 FLAKES - this slow feed hay net can hold about 4-6 flakes or up to a half of a 2-string or square bale of hay. These hay nets are great for everyday feeding and can be used in stalls, trailers, and pastures.

They are of soft, not fraying material like the nylon nets. The hole size is perfect, not too small to frustrate the horses.
The order arrived quickly, a great value, and I appreciated the free shipping.
Love the SOFT hay nets. The other reason I love them is because my horse is a little chunky and the colors help me with different amount of hay. So, I can management the amounts he gets. I don't have to remember anything but the color of the bag that he's needing.
We love these hay nets, they hold 3 flakes of hay and they are soft material. Definitely would buy again.
Love your nets and they last a long time, will always buy your nets. Thank you
Love the material, very soft. Seems to be holding up well (used half dozen times). Hole size is a GENEROUS 2"x2" and the net easily fits over a standard muck bucket to make for easy filling.
Unfortunately the "knots" where the net is "tied" are more of a weave than a tight knot. The holes can easily be pulled open to be 3"x3" and this is what my very smart hangry pony does with this net. My mini has not exploited this feature yet. So far, I've been able to reset the pony expanded holes before refilling - the material doesn't seem to stretch, the 'knots' just slide and haven't tightened up in the "Pony Customized" position.
I bought a Derby Originals 42" Eager Feeder Net at the same time. Different material but softer than the usual poly/nylon bags of other brands. The holes are more nominally 2"x2", but "tied" the same way as the Derby soft mesh bag, and they also slide open to be bigger, but not nearly as large.
Both styles are nice hay nets for the price if you don't mind the slightly larger holes to begin with in the Soft Mesh and don't have a wickedly smart equine engineer in your herd that will pull the holes open bigger (both styles).
Purchase & shipping with Tack Wholesale was great. Just be aware - items are not returnable if they are opened, and these are wrapped tight so you can't really get a good look until you open them, and buyer pays to ship them back (when there is not a case of mfg defect or shipping damage). But the price is great and shipping is currently so expensive that it's cheaper to keep them, in my case, and make it work. I will most likely double up nets when using either the Superior or Eager Feeder nets with my prehensile pony to thwart her customizations.
